Today I shall be mostly recovering from a very wonderful weekend.
We attended a perfect family wedding.
Perfect, because all of the ingredients that make a truly happy wedding were there.
The ingredients were as follows..
Two people very much in love.
One very beautiful bride and a damned handsome groom.
Beautiful bride's mega-fun Australian family ( who are today probably thanking their lucky stars that they live on the other side of the world from our side of the family ).
Glorious sunny weather.
One very pretty old church.
One eccentric joke-telling vicar.
Tuneless singing in the church.
Childish sniggering when singing 'All things bright and beautiful' ( It's the 'purple headed' mountain bit that sets us all off)
Lots of sniffling Mummies having to explain to their children that it's only 'happy tears'.
Lots and lots of hugs.
And a few more tears remembering precious people who are no longer with us.
A lovely location to party it up. With a big safe garden so we didn't have to bother looking after our children
; )
(at one point we found them all happily playing on the compost heap).
Lots and lots and lots of Champagne.
Lots and lots and lots of laughter.
An *inappropriate* best man's speech which left some people looking slightly shocked.
My Mother clashing gloriously in a lime green and orange ensemble.
My daughter ACTUALLY WEARING A DRESS !
My Mother being informed by the bride's uncle ( in a loud voice) that you could see her black knickers through her dress.
My Mother replying in an equally loud voice that he must be mistaken, because she wasn't wearing any knickers.
One person falling over and doing a near-perfect forward roll without spilling any beer from his pint.
One person having to go and have a little lie-down for a while.
One of the Mummies feeling the need to show anybody passing by her bra. (Thank God this wasn't me).
Great disco with lots of 80's music.
Lots of funky dancing.
I'll spare you the photos of me dancing, because we all think we are adorable and can dance real sexy when we've had a glass of bubbly or two - right ? (cringe cringe).
Shouting very rude things to the Bride and Groom about what they're going to get up to that night as they retire to the Bridal suite.
The best man drunkenly leaving his hotel room in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, returning to the wrong room, and cuddling up in bed with a married couple for half an hour before anybody realised.
Best man being completely gutted the next day, because the pretty wife he'd been cuddling had been naked and he couldn't remember a thing about it.
A recovery barbeque that next day for everyone to find out if they had offended/upset or snogged anybody they shouldn't have and to laugh at the very embarrassed,hung-over, best man.
Like I said - a perfect family wedding.
Lauren and Lee, thank you for a lovely weekend.
Ahhhhhhhhh:)

ahaha, that's quite a weekend! Sounds like a wonderful time. Still sniggering over Best Man. Hope the married couple was someone from the wedding party! Oh dear, poor man, it will probably be a while before anyone lets him forget that 8-)

I'm going to be grinning all day long each time I think your Mum and your Uncle's little exchange :)
too funny (and the rest of the wedding tale is pretty funny, too :)
Congrats to all :)

I love to visit your site everyday. Your "creations" are fantastic, but I think that more than anything else it's your sense of humor that brings me back time and time again. You're a keeper! Thanks for always adding humor and joy to my day...and of course, inspiration.

Thanks for sharing! I had such a shi... day and you saved it for me! The wedding sounds so funny, it would make a lovely movie! Your sense of humour brings me back daily and I am always disappointed - when you didn't blog something new! You should really blog daily, we would love you even more for it!
And I think you mum should have her own blog - I would subscribe immediately! No knickers - I am still laughing!

We have a word in our family for mothers. It's Mumtastic and I think your Mum qualifies for automatic inclusion into this elite group. She's quite a lady.

An inappropriate bestman always makes a good wedding I think!
Posted by: Kristy | June 11, 2007 at 08:26 PM
This made my day! Thank you so much. I love your Mum. My kinda lady. You're all welcome to drop in anytime you come to the wine country in California. Seriously!

Oh my goodness! The best man's antics are still making me laugh out ALOUD! Cuddling up to the naked lady and her husband is too funny. But then not remembering anything: hysterical!

It sounds like one of those glorious days that you remember years later and wonder if it could possibly have been quite as good as you remember it to have been. I love your mother's response, go mum!

Fantastic! Can't wait for our family wedding back home in Northern Calif in a few weeks time. Worth the 10 hour flight from the UK with two children. Same crowd, just a different continent. Your mum is great entertainment value - who needs a band!?
Posted by: ninimakes | June 12, 2007 at 09:34 PM
hilarious!
Posted by: amandajean | June 13, 2007 at 03:57 AM
Are you sure you haven't still got a slight hangover and described one of the weddings in 'Four weddings and a funeral' instead...?

I think you should sell the rights to hollywood and make a movie - and make sure your mum plays herself! What a great weekend - the English family I married into aren't half as much fun!!
Posted by: Sharyn | June 14, 2007 at 12:07 PM
I've just read out a few of these to my husband, and we've had quite a laugh - sounds like a great wedding.
Posted by: samantha | June 14, 2007 at 12:58 PM
Just my kind of family wedding, love it. Poor best man, he has to hear that story for years to come!! just to make sure he will not forget this one

What a perfect post about such a perfect weekend. Reminds me of a beauty of a wedding I went to in Cape Town. Long ago and far way and always in my heart. Congrats to the new couple!

I had the pleasure of being at this wedding and it was a very good day. The best mans speech will go down in family history.... It was certainly a groundbreaker :D LOL
Posted by: Leigh Cocker | June 17, 2007 at 09:18 PM
Oh man, that sounds so much more fun than the wedding we had to go attend. My kids entertained themselves by seeing how many ways they could express their boredom. There were many family members who weren't speaking to each other and NO BOOZE!
The newlyweds looks gorgeous in those pictures!

Dying laughing, esp. funny with all the British terms...the pic of the groom cradling brides face during the kiss, surprisingly touching and tear inducing. Thanks for sharing, made my day!

Lynn, you do it to me every time. Peeing in my pants laughing.
So loving the picture of your mom. I'm putting that in my special folder.
