Never again,
why I thought embarking on this was a good idea, when I'm a self-confessed flitty-fluttery butterfly brain - is beyond me.
It wasn't crocheting the squares that nearly drove me doo-lally, that part was fun and relaxing.
And it wasn't joining them together ( I used the decorative ridge method shown here ).
It was the bloody weaving in of all those ends - 6 colours in each square - 2 ends per colour - 81 squares = 972 sodding ends. Like I said, NEVER AGAIN.
The only thing that makes me still like it, is the fact that I crocheted most of it while watching Doctor Who ,so when I look at it, I think of David. And while I'm on the subject of the great one, there are some people out there who mistakingly think that David is their David (you know who you are Gemma ).
Can I just clear this up once and for all. He is *MY* David . And that ' he's a Timelord - we can all share him' theory wont wash with me Missy Gemma.
Oh my gosh! It sure looks great though! I absolutely love it!
Great work! You'll treasure it!

This is so very pretty. I love the colors you used. I made one of these, but it turned out so super ugly. I was just a kid and had no idea you were supposed to make more than 1 square, so the entire thing is 1 huge square. Oh so ugly/scary. Your creation here is the total opposite. Beautiful!!
Posted by: Marisa | October 01, 2007 at 05:11 AM
that is truly incredible... well done with all those ends!

Hello.
I was just as angry as you after my first blanket. Then a blogger gave me a tips. After each color join (!) the loose end of the tread into the part you just crocketed, with the needle.
I´m on my second blanket now!

It is beautiful and I am in awe of your end weaving skills! Cannot comment on your David illusions, clearly, he is My David, kindly leave him alone and stop trying to woo him with your clever crochet ways.

But my-oh-my it's beautiful!!! Well done for sticking with it, I would have given up on the first square.

Oh your rug is beautiful, that has given me inspiration to get on with mine.. although I'm cheating a bit doing plain colours in mushroom pinks, cream and brown, but with only 25 squares done, I have a way to go! And then the stitching up : (
Grandmas are very precious as they age, mine certainly was.

That is sooo beautiful! I'm a long time fan, first time commenter, but I'm delurking to say WOAH! I love it! And you haven't really done a sufficient job of scaring me off with the threat of weaving in all the ends. I'm still daydreaming about making my own.
Posted by: Patience | October 11, 2007 at 05:21 PM
Very pretty. I'm glad you finished all 972 ends and shared it with us.

hmmm.. i crocheted over the ends while i do the squares, which eliminates the need to weave. that's what i did with the babette, at least.
this does look great though - you know that, right? 125 comments say so, at least.

I know it was a lot of work, but the end result is sooo very beautiful. It should make you smile every time you look at it. :)
